Do you aim to participate in a medium or long distance race? Although physical training (outings to run, strength exercises, rest) is the basis we must work to achieve goal, we should not overlook another equally important factor and that can make a difference the " D-day ": mental training.
Do you constantly find yourself stressed out about working out, or have nagging aches and pains?
Often we don’t understand the real “Why’s” behind what we’re doing in training. Either someone just tells us to do it, and we do; we read it in a book (even worse) or we just make it up as we go along.
The challenge is each of these ways often gets us into trouble, due to the lack of one key word, SUSTAINABILITY. Instead of developing a training plan, we let the training plan develop around us, one that is not sustainable for the long run.
And is that, if we are not well prepared, the head usually succumbs long before the legs in a race of medium or long distance. Having a strategy to follow, knowing what to expect during the tour, setting small goals and always thinking positive are mental strategies that can help us cross the finish line.
Use the days before the test, when the kilometers of training are scarce, to prepare you mentally. If you have followed your workouts, you have a strategy and you go out for all knowing your body and your limits, sure that will come out well.
